WHAT IS VESTITE?

Funded by the City of West Hollywood’s Transgender, Gender Diverse, Intersex + Arts Grant, Vestite celebrates our community’s trans leaders, legends, and local organizers through print media, live performance, socially engaged art, and community orientation. Though this project was born from a pure, aspirational feeling of gender affirmation and joy, it now feels impossible not to acknowledge our government's concerted effort to totally eradicate the trans identity. In response, by using public funding to financially and creatively empower trans artists, we are ensuring our city continues to invest in its most vulnerable populations. By existing primarily in print, we also reinforce our tangible connection and remove ourselves from an increasingly unkind digital algorithm.

In addition to receiving a materials stipend to build a gender-affirming presentation for the Vestite Showcase, featured performers will participate in a round table discussion on performance, industry, and self-discovery as they relate to transness, to be printed in Vestite Magazine. Vestite Magazine is a free 24-page print zine celebrating all-things trans. With over 15 Guest Columnists, Vestite includes content on beauty, fashion, health, fitness, lifestyle, horoscope, visual art, and entertainment, all with a queer twist. The magazine launch and show will both take place on Saturday, April 26th at 7811 Gallery on Melrose where creator Samara Goodman and the entire cast of entertainers will present their work.

PERFORMERS

For our inaugural issue, we are featuring five local artists, each receiving funding from the City of West Hollywood to participate in a roundtable interview and live show. This volume’s performers include Bytch Nastee, Miss Barbie-Q, Page Person, Twinka Masala, and Vestite Creator Samara 66. Learn more about them in print by purchasing a copy.

VESTITE CREATOR

Vestite Zine is made up of contributions by local trans writers, artists, performers, sex workers, educators, bar tenders, DJs, drag queens, go-go dancers, and it-girls. Contributors include Judy, Tierra Dactly,  Stirling Silver, Vivi S. Fierce, Elle Goods, Max Nastee, Ainslee Platt, Yvette Geterian, Mars Wright, Calla Faeria, and Skynsuit.

CONTRIBUTORS

LA-native Samara Goodman writes, creates, and performs in total celebration of the unabashed. With a background in journalism and publishing, it was ultimately Samara’s obsession with drag that led her to nightlife reporting. Since, Samara has profiled dozens of artists, capturing their distinct, often unacknowledged impact on queer culture.
